David Marks, MD is the Chief of Avance Care Pain Management Services providing care to patients at Avance Care Psychiatry and Pain Management in Chapel Hill, North Carolina and is board-certified in Pain Medicine, Psychiatry, and Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry.
Dr. Marks earned his medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch in 1995. He completed his psychiatry residency at the University of California at San Diego and the Medical College of Pennsylvania Clinical Neuroscience Research Unit. He then pursued a fellowship in Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry at the University of California at San Diego, followed by advanced training in Pain Medicine at Duke University Medical Center in 2008. Dr. Marks served as full-time faculty in Duke Psychiatry and Community and Family Medicine from 2006 to 2020, and he continues to hold the title of Clinical Associate Professor at Duke University.
With decades of experience in research, teaching, and clinical practice, Dr. Marks specializes in treating chronic pain, depression, anxiety, and other mental health conditions. He is widely published and has presented nationally on a variety of topics in Pain Medicine and Psychiatry. Dr. Marks is passionate about delivering personalized pain management and believes in partnering with each patient to ensure they feel heard, supported, and empowered in their healthcare journey.
Outside of his professional work, Dr. Marks feels honored to support individuals in overcoming the challenges of chronic pain and is dedicated to helping his patients live their best lives.
