Individuals with alcohol and other substance use disorders have a high rate of tobacco use. Often patient continue or even increase their tobacco use after they have quit alcohol and illicit drugs. At Avance Psychiatry, we believe in educating patients about the benefits of smoking cessation and the cessation process. We discuss and offer approved medications to help in smoking cessation. These include nicotine replacement therapies (NRT) such as nicotine transdermal patch, gum, lozenge, inhaler and spray, medications such as bupropion (Zyban®) and varenicline (Chantix®). Our counselors are trained in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and other counseling approaches that have been shown to be effective in smoking cessation.
